4th Grade Rocks!
Dear Fourth Grade Families,
Welcome to Mrs. Chaffee’s fourth grade class! I have been teaching fourth grade here at Loomis Grammar School since 2009. Here is what fourth grade has in store for you or your child: Please get ready for a fun and exciting year full of experiences and learning. We will be learning about California history in Social Studies. We have the chance to explore Native American Indians, Explorers, California Missions, and most exciting of all…. The Gold Rush! Since we are located close to most historical events we are privileged to visit Gold Bug Park in Placerville where gold was discovered ered, and spend a day as Pioneers. Science allows us to explore our environment, magnetism and electricity as well as rocks and minerals.
Fourth graders develop as readers and writers! We learn how to write narratives, informational reports, and opinion writing as well as response to questions using the RACES strategy. The novels we read are exciting and relate to the themes we teach in school. Get ready to read Fourth Grade Rats, Island of the Blue Dolphins, By the Great Horn Spoon, Patty Reed’s Doll, and other favorites. In fourth grade we will be using Everyday Math learning about multidigit addition and subtraction, multiplication and division, geometry, place value, fractions, decimals, and measurement.
Here's to a great year in 4th grade!
